After 50 years of painting, you might think that I would have a reasonable grasp on the process. But, nope. It's still the same frustrating and exciting activity it was at age 18 as it is at 70+, offering the same conflicts and delights. I have been fortunate to have been able to paint while raising a family, teaching and through the various moves from place to place. The work reflects those changes, in particular the move to Maine in 2021. At that time, I wanted to paint more outside of the studio and reference the current environment . While Maine's natural landscape is wild and beautiful , my interest was in human activity. I enjoy the liveliness and challenge of painting a constantly moving world.

Currently, my subject matter has shifted from plein-air painting to invented depictions of personal fables using plants, animals and insects. This new endeavor begins with an observed setting ie; landscape, shoreline, roads etc. then I incorporate the players-small animals, insects and plants.
